BARIKADA

25 Nov

Barikada (Barricade) is a short film produced by Tudla Productions.

After months of shooting, post production, criticism, revisions, shooting and post production (repeat 3x), we will be launching the film tomorrow (finally!), November 26, 2011 at the Bantayog ng mga Bayani Auditorium, Quezon Avenue, Quezon City, at 3:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M.  Everybody is welcome but seats are limited so better come early.

This is the first time that the group produced a narrative film. Almost all of the cast of this film are from the community of Corazon de Jesus, San Juan City.

Here’s the synopsis:

Cora, wife of Joel and mother to Michelle, has devoted her time in the organized resistance of her community against the demolition of their homes to give way to infrastructure projects of the government. Many like-minded neighbours plan to put up a barricade come demolition day. Three days before the demolition, the community comes face to face with the mounting pressures of their struggle: neighbours succumbing to despair, government unheeding of their demands, etc. The community went on the fight realizing they have more to lose without it.

Enjoy the trailer and music video!

I’ll post about the creation of this film after the launch. :-)

Project Rise Photo Contest: Homeless (Please Vote for my Entry!)

15 Sep

My photo is one of the finalists for the Global Fund for Children’s Project Rise, a photo contest about the pressing issues adolescent girls are facing and *eherm* my entry is the only entry coming from the Philippines.

So, I’m appealing to everybody to please help me win by voting for my photo. Here’s how:

  1. Go to the Global Fund for Children’s Facebook page by clicking the link https://www.facebook.com/GlobalFundforChildren and click ‘Like’
  2. Vote for my photo by clicking this link (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150431979378976&set=a.10150431976913976.450219.126815818975&type=1&ref=nf) and click ‘Like’ found at the bottom of the photo

The photo depicts demolition of homes in urban areas in the Philippines which leads to displacement and homelessness, a very pressing issue faced by thousands of adolescent girls in the country (the contest’s theme).

Help me raise the issue of demolition of urban poor in the Philippines to the whole world.

By the way, if ever I win, we (Tudla Productions) will use the prize (which is just a small amount) to continue the group’s advocacy in coverning the issues of the marginalized sectors in the Philippines.

Please spread the word! Voting is until September 23!

Writings on the Wall

26 Jul

This is a bit late for an invitation to attend the People’s SONA (State of the Nation’s Address) but hey, this is a generic call that’s applicable every year not until there’s genuine change in the country. Enjoy!

Pandayang Lino Brocka now on its third year

26 Jul

The Pandayang Lino Brocka Political Film and New Media Festival is now on its 3rd year of gathering students, amateur and independent film makers and film collectives in the hopes of finding the new generation of film makers following the footsteps of Lino Brocka, one of the greatest film makers in the Philippines.

According to Sam Montuya, Pandayang Lino Brocka Festival Head, “this year’s festival is not just to raise consciousness on the political situation of our country and look for new Lino Brockas, but this is also a tribute to the namesake of the festival, Lino Brocka.” The group, Tudla Productions, plan to conduct a special program during the festival to honor the life and works of Lino Brocka.

This year, the group will have a special screening of Lino Brocka’s film “Dung-aw”. The film is about the story of the famous Filipina revolutionary hero, Gabriela Silang, which was produced and starred by Armida Siguion-Reyna.

“We decided to screen ‘Dung-aw’ this year because 2011 is the 100th anniversary of women’s struggle throughout the world and Gabriela Silang is an icon in the Philippines of women fighting for their country’s liberation,” Montuya said.

Lino Brocka’s sympathy to the women’s situation can be seen in several of his films where women are the main characters like Dung-aw, Bona, Insiang, Wanted: Perfect Mother, Gumising Ka Maruja, Lucia Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang among others.

In addition to film screenings, a forum on the Filipinization of Mass Media and workshop on scriptwriting will be held during the festival.

“We always make it a point to conduct these forum and workshop during the festival to raise the consciousness of the festival’s audience and encourage them to create their own films that are relevant to the society,” she added.

The film screenings, forum and workshops will be held from August 10 to 11, 2011 at the UP Film Center, Cine Adarna and Ishmael Bernal Gallery respectively.

After the festival at the University of the Philippines, Pandayang Lino Brocka will be brought to other schools, workplaces, urban poor and peasant communities.

The 3rd Pandayang Lino Brocka Political Film and New Media Festival, organized by Tudla Productions in partnership with the U.P. Film Institute, is supported by the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
